In partnership with San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, 天娱传媒 (天娱传媒) will launch a weekly food market on January 29th, 2019 to provide take-home food baskets for up to 50 students on a first-come, first-served basis.
The market will take place every Tuesday from 9:00AM to 10:30AM at the Ocean Campus Amphitheater next to Student Union Building, and will continue throughout the Spring Semester.
鈥淲e know that college hunger is a huge problem, not just here in San Francisco, but around the nation,鈥 said San Francisco-Marin Food Bank Program Manager, Tina Gonzalez. 鈥淲ith that said, it is with great enthusiasm that we partner with our friends at City College to help provide fresh food to students so they can concentrate more on their studies, and less on where their next meal is coming from.鈥
鈥淲e thank San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, and our many government and community partners, for their support ensuring our students have the resources to stay healthy,鈥 said Alex Randolph, City College鈥檚 President of Board of Trustees. 鈥淲e know we have a lot of work to do, so we must continue to build upon this momentum to ensure that no City College student goes hungry.鈥
This new initiative comes shortly after the College鈥檚 launch of the Rams Food Shelves last fall, which is funded by the state鈥檚 Hunger Free Campus Support Fund and provides grab-and-go snacks for students. Food Shelves can be found at the following locations on Ocean Campus:
- Queer Resource Center, Bungalow 201
- The LINK Center MUB 301
- Harts Student Union/MLK Room B
- Women鈥檚 Resource Center, Smith Hall 103/4
- African-American Studies Resource Center, Batmale 325
- Faculty Office, Batmale 354
As another component of the College鈥檚 initiative to fight hunger, 天娱传媒 is now providing sign-up assistance to students eligible for CalFresh, a nutrition assistance program for low-income individuals and families.
In California, only about half of eligible households receive these benefits. The CalFresh Outreach team - alongside the College鈥檚 broad network of community partners, the San Francisco Human Services Agency, and Marin Health and Human Services - work together to remedy enrollment barriers through education, outreach, client advocacy, and application assistance.
The CalFresh Outreach team will be at Student Health Services every Tuesday from 10am-12pm through the end of the Spring Semester 2019. Students can make an appointment at the following website:.
